Julie Galante was born in New Jersey and spent much of her childhood in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She studied Visual Arts at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna, Italy. After completing a degree in Psychology and Perception of Visual Art from Brown in 1997, she moved to Germany to become a teacher at Martin Luther University in Halle an der Saale.

Her passion for travel and experiencing new cultures has brought her to many cities and countries around the world, where she constantly finds new visual inspiration. Following her time in eastern Germany, she spent periods living in Phoenix, New York, Milan, and Zurich.

Since early 2008 Julie has been living and working in Munich, Germany. Her current artistic focus is on scenes from various European cities. She also continues to revisit the human face as a subject as she experiments with portraiture.
